Lindsey Vonn was taken to a hospital by helicopter Tuesday after crashing and apparently hurting her right knee in the super-G race at the world ski championships. (Photo: Fabrice Coffrini/AFP/Getty Images)
Vonn, a four-time overall World Cup champion, lost balance on her right leg while landing after a jump. Her ski came off immediately, and Vonn slid off course and hit a gate before coming to a halt.
The American received medical treatment on the slope for 12 minutes before being taken to the hospital.

Snowmobiler Caleb Moore remains in critical condition after a dramatic crash at the Winter X Games in Aspen.
“Caleb is not doing good at all. The prognosis is not good at all. It’s almost certain he’s not going to make it,” Moore’s grandfather told the Denver Post on Monday.
What started as an innocent round of golf for U.S. alpine skier Bode Miller and his wife Morgan ended in a trip to the hospital. Morgan, a professional volleyball player, apparently took a line drive to the face, courtesy of her husband.
“Feeling better today,” she tweeted on Thursday. “Still can’t see out of left eye but I am getting some feeling back in my face.”
She added: “A huge thank you to @Kaenon [A sunglasses company]. By absorbing a 160mph line drive I only got 50+ stitches instead of losing my eye.”
Here is star hurdler Lolo Jones in her first World Cup bobsled competition.
Reigning world champion Kaillie Humphries of Calgary won the gold medal in the bobsled season-opener, beating the United States team of Jones and Jazmine Fenlator.
Humphries and brakewoman Chelsea Valois of Zenon Park, Sask., finished the two runs at Lake Placid in one minute 54.86 seconds 0.47 seconds ahead of Fenlator and Jones, a two-time Olympian in hurdles.
