You hold your head high, Jim Harbaugh: “They asked me to come on and deliver a positive message to the youth. And for that I’ve been scorned and humiliated.” — Jim Harbaugh, recalling his appearance on the NBC sitcom Saved by the Bell when he was the Colts quarterback. (And deliver a positive message he did.)

A little extra attention: San Francisco 49ers cornerback Chris Culliver apologized Thursday for anti-gay comments he made to a comedian during Super Bowl media day, saying “that’s not what I feel in my heart.”
“I’m sorry if I offended anyone. They were very ugly comments,” Culliver said during an hour-long media session. “Hopefully I learn and grow from this experience and this situation.”
He said he would welcome a gay teammate to the 49ers, a reversal of his remarks to Artie Lange two days earlier during an interview at the Superdome.

Michael Vick and Alex Smith were knocked out of their games when each sustained a concussion in the first half, leaving the Eagles and 49ers unsure of their quarterbacks’ status for next week’s games.
Vick was hit by Cowboys linebacker Ernie Sims on an incomplete pass and was slow to get up early in the second quarter of Philadelphia’s 38-23 loss to Dallas. Vick headed for the locker room and was replaced by Nick Foles with the game tied 7-7.
Vick threw a 2-yard touchdown pass to Riley Cooper in the first quarter.
Smith scrambled and started to slide before turning his back late, and Rams linebacker Jo-Lonn Dunbar barrelled into his neck area with 1:10 left in the first quarter of a 24-24 tie against St. Louis.
The San Francisco 49ers are everything Rex Ryan wishes his New York Jets were.
San Francisco used a solid running game, a smothering defence, a little bit of the wildcat-style offence and even blocked a punt to cruise to a 34-0 victory Sunday.
That’s exactly the type of team the Jets coach was hoping to build. Instead, Ryan had to watch it from the other sideline as the 49ers ran for more than 200 yards and Carlos Rogers returned a fumble 51 yards for a touchdown.
Frank Gore, Kendall Hunter and backup quarterback Colin Kaepernick — on a wildcat-style option — all ran for scores as the 49ers (3-1) bounced back from a disappointing loss last week at Minnesota. Rather than head back to the West Coast after that defeat, coach Jim Harbaugh chose to have his team stay in eastern Ohio and practice at Youngstown State all week.
It apparently helped, just as it did last season when the 49ers did the same thing.
Apparently the NFL wasn’t done. Alex Smith signed a three-year deal with the 49ers, even after they went after Peyton Manning (only to have their hearts broken)
What is this, an arena for ants? Prospective personal seat license buyers look at a model of the planned future home of the San Francisco 49ers. The 49ers’ planned move to a new billion-dollar stadium in suburban Santa Clara faces what could be its final hurdle on March 5 when a judge hears arguments on whether a complex financing deal should be subject to voter approval. 49ers upend Drew Brees and the Saints
What a way to celebrate the 30-year anniversary of “The Catch.”
Joe Montana to Dwight Clark then.
Alex Smith to Vernon Davis now.
Smith completed a 14-yard touchdown pass to Davis with 9 seconds left just after Drew Brees had put the high-powered Saints ahead, and resurgent San Francisco capitalized on five New Orleans turnovers for a thrilling 36-32 playoff victory Saturday.

The San Francisco 49ers and Pittsburgh Steelers Monday night game was interrupted when the power went out at the 49ers home stadium Candlestick Park, after an earlier outage at the stadium, a team official said. The second outage lasted about 20 minutes before power was restored, he said. Play was stopped, but the game resumed when the lights came back on. REUTERS/Robert Galbraith
