A little over a year after setting the world record for surfing the highest wave at 24 metres off the coast of Nazaré, Portugal, Garrett McNamara may have topped himself.
The 45-year-old American surfed a wave that has been reported as being 30.5 metres high at the same location on Monday.
McNamara told CNN’s Anderson Cooper “it was one of the longest, hardest drops” he had ever dealt with.
“It was just this endless drop and my feet were popping out of the straps,” he said. “It was like my whole body was shattering and it was really difficult.” (Photo: AP Photo/To Mane/Nazare Qualifica)
This doesn’t look good: Cristiano Ronaldo will miss Portugal’s friendly in Gabon on Wednesday after sustaining a gash over his left eye in a Real Madrid game.
Ronaldo missed the second half of his club’s match against Levante after defender David Navarro’s elbow cut the Portugal captain.
Ronaldo scored Madrid’s opener in the 21st minute but could not continue after halftime.
Madrid coach Jose Mourinho said that his star forward “lost vision in both eyes.”
Don’t Cry For Me Madridistas: Why is this man so sad? Cristiano Ronaldo has again said that his unhappiness at Real Madrid is not money-related.
He wrote on Facebook on Wednesday that he is “not worried about contracts” and that “my attention is exclusively focused on winning all the games and trophies in play with the indispensable company of my teammates and all of Madrid’s fans.”
The Portugal forward’s enigmatic comment two weeks ago that he was “feeling sad” at the Spanish club sparked rumours the 27-year-old star wanted a raise. He has previously denied it is about money, saying only the club knows what the problem is about.
Someone is having a sad. And that someone is Cristiano Ronaldo. It makes sense - Portugal lost to Spain on penalties on Wednesday afternoon and was eliminated from Euro 2012. If you’re a Spain fan, it means your team is now in the final and must wait for the winner of Italy vs. Germany to find out the next team.
Did Ronaldo taunt Messi? Cristiano Ronaldo will be mentioned often here, but the first mention will centre on the rivalry the Portuguese superstar has been stoking with a player who is not even eligible to play at Euro 2012. Comparisons between Ronaldo and Argentina’s Lionel Messi have become a storyline this month, and that will likely remain the case after Ronaldo found a television camera after scoring the game’s only goal on Thursday. Upon further review, it appears Ronaldo mouthed the word “Messi” before blowing a kiss into the camera.
At least that’s what the talk was on Twitter. Now it seems he was saying ‘para ti’ …we’ll leave it for you to decide.

Can’t get enough of this psychic pig: A staff member washes Funtik the pig as it prepares to predict the result of the Euro 2012 soccer match between Portugal and Czech Republic, by choosing the food plate with either the Portuguese or the Czech flag, at the fan zone in Kiev June 21, 2012. Funtik, a “psychic pig”, is set to take over where Paul the Octopus left off at the 2010 World Cup by predicting the results of matches at the Euro 2012 soccer championships in Ukraine and Poland.
