Two days of talks between the NHL, the players’ association, and federal mediators still haven’t provided any answers on how to end the lockout.
President Barack Obama addressed the stalemate in an interview Thursday with WCCO-TV in Minneapolis.
“My message to owners and to players is, `You guys make a lot of money and you make a lot of money on the backs of fans, so do right by your fans. You can figure out how to spread out a bunch of revenue that you’re bringing in, but do right by the people who support you,’” Obama said. “And I shouldn’t have to be involved in a dispute between really wealthy players and even wealthier owners. They should be able to settle this themselves. And remember who it is that’s putting all that money in their pockets.”

Mike, from Los Angeles, had a question for U.S. President Barack Obama. And as it was read aloud on Wednesday, by Jay Leno on The Tonight Show, it sounded like it could have come from any desperate corner in Canada: “Can you pull some strings to end the NHL lockout?”
Obama, whose arms had been crossed before the question, began to point a finger as he started to answer.
“You know, I do have a comment on this,” he said. “Every time these things happen, I just want to remind the owners and the players: You guys make money because you’ve got a whole bunch of fans out there who are working really hard.”
Two words: KISS CAM. The Obamas wouldn’t oblige during the first half, despite roars and some boos from the crowd. But in the fourth quarter, “Kiss Cam” peered back on the first couple and the president was ready: He put his arm around his wife and planted a big kiss on the first lady as the crowd roared.
David Beckham and the Los Angeles Galaxy paid a visit to the White House on Tuesday as U.S. President Barack Obama paid tribute to the 2011 MLS champions.
However, Obama could not resist making fun of Beckham and his underwear line, quipping: “He is tough. It is a rare man who can be that tough on the field and also have his own line of underwear. David Beckham is that man.”
U.S. President Barack Obama revealed his full NCAA bracket to ESPN on Wednesday, picking the University of North Carolina to take home the big prize.
“I like teams with good point guards because I think the ability to control the game and limit turnovers, I think that’s a big difference,” he told ESPN. “Being able to make free throws, that ends up counting a little bit. Other than that, it’s all throwing darts.”
Obama also gave British Prime Minister David Cameron a front-row seat to March Madness on Tuesday, taking his European partner to an election swing state for an NCAA tournament basketball game.
Tim Thomas refuses to visit White House
U.S. President Barack Obama hosted the Boston Bruins at the White House on Monday afternoon to celebrate their 2011 Stanley Cup victory, but veteran goaltender Tim Thomas declined to attend for political reasons, according to Sports Illustrated.
“I can require someone to attend a team event. If they don’t, I can suspend him,” Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli told the Boston Globe. “I’m not suspending Tim. Whatever his position is, it isn’t reflective of the Boston Bruins nor my own. But I’m not suspending him.” Photo: Jewel Samad/AFP/Getty Images
